I had a nice AHA moment this morning while thinking about a project I’ve been working on. The thing (yet to be named, announced, publicly admitted) is still in sketch phase, and I’ve been stuck solving a few key problems. The ideas I was coming up with for these problems had one common theme: they all diminished the power of the original idea.

And then it just occurred to me. Design for the user experience first, and then figure out all the details.

In this case it’s not technology I’m thinking about, it’s things like a business model and billing and other logistics. But no more. I’m going to design for the killer user experience I first envisioned, and see where that takes me.
